John Collins junior, who organises the funfair, is one of the biggest sponsors of May Day, providing vital funds to help the historic pageant meet soaring costs.
A free firework display takes to the skies on Sunday evening from 8.30pm.
John, 36, said: “It’s great to keep something like this going.
“To me, it is part of our heritage and tradition.
“I have been coming here every year of my life.
“A lot of towns used to have processions and parades but with rising costs they haven’t been able to keep them going.
“Knutsford May Day is something different.
“It is one of the big events in our calendar.
"This is the biggest funfair in the North West.
“We must keep it going because once it’s gone, its never going to come back.
“The worrying thing is that when events like this go, they are never replaced.”
John’s family has been connected with running the May Day funfair since 1913.
This year, there will be around 30 big rides, 40 children’s rides and lots of little kiosks and games.
A new white knuckle ride is being launched.
The Mega Spin is not for the faint-hearted as thrill seekers stand around the outside of a giant rotating drum.
The drum elevates and rotates on two huge tower arms, turning 360 degrees back on itself, whilst rotating on its own axis.
Atmosfear is on their most popular thrill rides.
Beach Buggys is one of around 40 children’s rides.
Booster Maxx is the tallest ride at 180 feet high.
The Police Station Fun House is one of the biggest in the UK.
The funfair opens on Friday from 6pm to 10pjm, Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 10pm and on Bank Holiday Monday from 1pm to 7pm.
